[faq] How do I stop the SMTP service?

Certain tasks may require you to stop the SMTP service (for example binding mxClaim to your SMTP virtual server). There are two ways to stop the SMTP service, using the Windows interface or using a command prompt.

Using the Windows Interface

  1. Open Services (located in Control Panel, Administrative Tools)
  2. Right click on Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) in the details pane amd click Stop
  3. The Status column in the details pane will change to ‘Stopped’ when the service has stopped

Using the Command Prompt

  1. Open a Command Prompt
  2. Type: net stop smtpsvc and press enter
